How fast does your website really need to be?

Now that most use DSL or Cable connections, you might think that all sites are fast enough. However, most aren't. Jakob Nielsen, one of the foremost usability experts, reports that computer systems (websites or otherwise) need response times of less than 1 second for the "user's flow of thought to stay uninterrupted".
